Review Methodology

How we test, grade, and evaluate supplements and health products.

Our Scientific Evaluation Framework

Unlike generic review sites that simply rewrite product labels, Cedar Journal evaluates products using a multi-layered scientific framework. We test products against real clinical guidelines, ensuring that our recommendations are safe, effective, and cost-efficient.

The 4 Pillars of Product Evaluation

1. Ingredient Bioavailability & Quality

Not all chemical forms of a mineral or vitamin absorb equally. We evaluate the chemical salt forms used in the product. For example, we reward brands using chelated Magnesium Glycinate or L-Threonate over those using poorly absorbed Magnesium Oxide.

2. Clinical Ingredient Dosing

We verify whether the dosage of each active ingredient matches the dosage shown to be effective in double-blind, placebo-controlled human trials. If a key ingredient is "underdosed," we penalize the product score.

3. Third-Party Laboratory Testing

Supplement manufacturing lacks strict government regulation in many countries. We prioritize brands that provide accessible Certificates of Analysis (CoA) from independent labs (such as NSF, USP, or ConsumerLab) to prove purity, potency, and the absence of heavy metals.

Transparency & Disclosures

We purchase the supplements we test or receive them from manufacturers under the strict condition that our review will remain entirely unbiased. We do not receive compensation for giving a product a specific rating. Any affiliate commission we receive helps support our editorial and medical review teams.
